Unhappy Holiday
  March 2006

In your character's society, there is a holiday they refuse to celebrate that nearly everyone else does and they often get grief for it when others find out. Often the grief is due to misunderstandings on why they don't celebrate it (like you hate Irish if you don't celebrate St. Patrick's Day--or you don't have pride in your ancestors if you are Irish--when in fact you just don't find St. Patrick himself worth celebrating; yes, I'm using a personal example). Have your character talk about this holiday and what they think of it and the people who give him/her grief for not celebrating. Why don't they celebrate it? How are they often misunderstood? Did one of these misunderstandings happen recently? What happened?

Remember, this is a creative practice, if you want to tweak the prompt, help yourself and the holiday doesn't have to be an actual holiday by any means, and can be a holiday you created. Use your creative freedom! If only a section of these prompts help, use just that section and throw out the rest!

Happy writing!
